thinking of switching to electric heat
i live in VT and right now we use heating oil to heat our house and water we have not water baseboard radiator heating. with the price of oil well over $4 a gallong and will be over 5 by the winter. its getting way to expensive we have a 2000sq ft house about and its going to cost over $500 a month just in oil and that is if its a warm winter like last winter if its very cold its going to be alot more. i was wondering if i would save anything if i got electric heaters. i noticed some electric baseboard heaters you can buy. some are wired in some are portable. anyone have more info on electric heating or where i can get more info. like how many heaters or how big of ones i would need for diffrent size rooms. also anyone recommend any specific heaters.

Well, before we jump the gun switching out your fuel source, i would do some improvement around the house to save on energy.
-How's the windows?
-Hows' the door?
-Enough insulation in the attic and wall?
If they need help, get that up to par before doing anything with your heating equipment.
How old is the boiler? When was the last good tune up?
Do you have LP or natural gas service? If you do, you know what the rates are on those?

A portable space heater is fine if you want to warm a room, but you can't go down to Lowes, pick up a half dozen space heaters and plug them in and expect to heat your home this way. Your homes wiring - generally 14 gauge -is not designed to handle that type of continuous load. Permanently installed wired in heaters, if done correctly and provided their own circuit, are fine for continuous use.
And I think its safe to say electric is cheaper than oil right now. I never though I would be saying that
