No aux heat

The electric backup heat will not come on. This is a Lennox heat pump W/ ECB29 electric heat section. HP works fine but electric heat doesn't come on when HP asks for it. Switching the Tstat to Em. heat doesn't turn the elements on either but the fan runs. At the units terminal block(TB1), W1 doesn't have any voltage while in Em. heat. Even if I jump 24vac to W1 directly the electric elements don't heat up. I'm looking for help and a sequence of checks to isolate problem

Two things pop to my mind is if there is an on/off switch for the aux. heat, and also if a breaker for it is tripped.

Worst than a breaker popped. I found a bad factory connector at the W1 leading to the heat relays. This kept the electric heat from coming on. I had wired an old manual Tstat up for a test and found 24vac at W1 but still no heat. The connector looked fine but it had a short. It could have been this way for years but until the electronic Tstat went bad I never noticed.

So you found the problem and now you fixed it and it works?
