Outside fan and compressor leaking water

I've noticed the past week or so that there is occasionally some water draining out of the outside fan/compressor unit of our Trane heat pump.

Is this normal? It seems to be working fine but I never noticed any moisture there before.

Thanks.

Sounds perfectly normal. On a Heat Pump system the removal of the heat from the air around the outside coil when the weather is
cold and there is high humidity will cause the coil to frost over and freeze. Your heat pump system detects the coils frosting and freezing and actually runs the Heat Pump in Air Conditioning mode which heats up the outside coils for a short period of time to deIce the coils. Sometimes you will even see steam rising off the outside coils along with water drainage. Sounds the trane is running well.

It is also normal for your system to condensate outside in hot weather. Since the cold refrigerant gas is returning to the unit there will be some parts like suction accumulator and piping that will condensate creating this water you see.
