I installed and did all the wiring, duct work, and installation of two heat pumps a couple of years ago in a new house I built with no operational problems. (had everything checked by state certified person as required by law). They consist of Goodman ARUF air handler, Goodman heat pumps, White-Rogers 1F72-151 programmable thermostats, electric heating elements in air handler for auxiliary (and emergency) heat. I have installed an outside thermostat in one to switch to the heat strips at whatever outside temperature I set it at. I was of the opinion that when the OT thermostat kicks in it would be the same as throwing the emergency switch on the thermostat which shuts off the heat pump and turns over heating to the heat strips. [B]Is this correct?[/B] Everything works when OT kicks in except the [U][B]heat pump continues to run[/B][/U]. [B]I think heat pump should shut off[/B] Operation of OT and all control wiring as per ARUF manual seems to be correct. Am I misunderstanding the operation.

Goodman Model GSH140481AB. I have Installation and Operating manual but no circuit board schematic. Does the compresor fan shut off when in defrost mode? Since I think the defrost mode is timed rather than temperature controlled on this model, what is this time and can it be changed with jumpers on circuit board?
