Stat wiring for Bryant Heat pump

Had a problem with constant fan operation (indoor fan ran continuously no matter the fan switch position), the fan even ran when the system was set to "oof" at the stat. Went to indoor unit and tapped a few times on the fan realy (thought maybe it was stuck), no change , fan continued to run. Bought a Honeywell RTH 2410 programmable stat at hardware store, package saidit was ok for Heat pump, set jumper to heat pump setting wired up 5 of six wires (Orange to O/B, Yellow to Y, Red to R, Green to G and White to W/Aux). I left the Black wire loose and covered it with electrical tape as the instructions stated. Now fan cycles on call for heat and warm air is coming out, but the outdoor compressor unit never starts (it is about 40 degrees outside today). I am certain that I am heating with electrical resistance back up heat only. What can I do to fix this?

What was the old black wire tied to on the old stat?

Make sure these settings are set in the "System Setup " menu.
