Part of my electric baseboard is cold. Ideas?

Hello, first time poster! I figured this would be a good place to start.

I am having a problem with one of my electric baseboards. It's a 6' unit and only 2 of those feet are getting hot. I noticed something was wrong when my heat bill spiked. Naturally I checked the thermostat and I noticed that the heater was only at 65 even though the stat was set to 74. I checked the baseboard and only one end of it is getting hot. Upon visual inspection I could not determine that there was any clear problem.

My management company isn't very attentive to non-emergency complaints. If there's anything I can do to fix the problem, I'd like to try. I'm not an electrician but I am an audio engineer--I know enough to decide whether try myself or call an electrician. Maybe the unit just needs to be replaced.

Thanks!

That is odd.. I've never heard of part of electric heat strip heating.. They either work or they don't.

Any hot/burt spot on the soil?

Thanks for your response Jay. I took a closer look and it's actually two separate radiators inside the cover. One works and the other doesn't. The one side isn't nearly big enough to adequately heat the one room. Maybe if I put a ticket in with the maintenance office as "emergency heat problem" they'll replace the bad side somewhat quickly.

I wonder if there's anything I could try on my own while I'm waiting for these guys to install a new one.

I would not mess with it and put in a request in for no heat call.
