Two zone house in VA, gas furnace for main level, attic heat pump for upstairs?

I'm looking at a new house in northern Virginia. It would have a gas furnace in the basement for the main level, and a heat pump in the attic for the upstairs (bedrooms).

I know furnaces in the attic are not uncommon, but I've never had one and it seem like a pain. I am also surprised by the mix of gas and heat pump in the same house. Does this sound ok or is it a screwy setup that I should avoid?
