Do I need a new unit?
First off I live in Florida, I have a heat pump system with an air handler in the attic.
The system is about 10 years old.
6 months ago it stopped cooling so I had a technician come and he had to add $300 worth of coolant. He also added some sort of leak sealant to the system. Ever since it has been cooling fine. But last week I had to use the heater for a few nights and now it won't blow cold air anymore. Temperature delta is about 3-4 degrees.
When use added the refrigerant he tried to sell me on a whole new system. That seems excessive to me but I really don't know much about this stuff.
I know when. Cal them to come back they are gringo try to sell me a new system.
What should I do?
Does this sound like something that should be able to be repaired cost effectively?
He too me it would cost thousands to find and fix the leak and since my system is 10 years old. Might as well just replace it all.
I just feel like I am being buttered up to get ripped off.
Any advice for me?
Thank you.

Your post is a little hard to follow. Did you re-read it after you posted it ? gringo ?
300.00 in freon and leak sealant
The fact that it won't cool could mean it's low on freon again or that wonderful leak sealant has gummed something up like the reversing valve.
How about calling another company ?

Best to get three quotes and install a new unit. I have used the leak sealer in the past in special situations (really old inefficient system with a small leak that I cannot pinpoint and a broke homeowner) only to make an extremely old unit work until the homeowner can save up some dough for a new system. I had one unit that ran for over 3 years with the junk in it. Obviously your leak is in a spot where the sealer will not work. Some areas where there is extreme pressure and vibration it just does not hold. Not much a DIYer can do with the sealed (unsealed in this case) system. Sorry about that.
