Modular Home system upgrade
Hello,
We have a 2006, 1500sq ft single story modular home that is well insulated. Current setup is a coleman propane downflow furnace with no refrigerated air at all. The Main ductwork running the length of the house is 7 x 14 rectangular sheet metal with either 6 or 7 " flexible connectors to the vents. Vents are 12 1/2 x 3 1/2".
My plan is to upgrade to an all electric 3 ton heat pump system. I've read that coleman makes great heat pumps and they also have the downflow air handler designed for modular homes. I've read several articles stating that with my size of ductwork that It would not be worth me buying anything over a 13 seer system and it seems like all of the coleman mobile / modular home package systems are 13 seer. Would you just go with the package?
I have not had any professionals come and do the flow tests.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks!

I don't believe a 7x14 main supply duct could handle a 3 ton system. Did you do a load calculation to come up with 3 ton? Are you talking about adding the heat pump to your existing furnace?

I have an Hvac guy coming tomorrow to check things out. I was going off of the manufacturers recommended size for the size of our place. For a heat pump A 2.5 ton seemed to be on the small side and a 3 ton was on the big side from everything I found.
I think we have decided to put in a wood fireplace this summer so I will be putting in a dedicated Air conditioner instead of a heat pump. I have seen sites that recommend a 2 ton AC unit for this size place.
My plan is to get rid of the propane all together and put in a matching electric air handler to whatever size AC I end up with.
