Long time to cool

Hi all,

Just had a Trane heat pump repair. Capacitor had failed, compressor had overheated as a result. Replaced capacitor, cooled down compressor and all seems to be working. However, the technician said it could take 7-8 hours for the unit to even blow cold air? Does this seem right? We have had minor repairs before where the unit was off for 24 hours, and it cooled right away after repair. Please advise! Thanks!!

No that doesn't seem correct. It shouldn't take 7-8 hrs to start cooling, it shouldn't even take that long to bring the house down to set temp.

If its hot out 90 and above yes it could easily take that long to bring the temp down. A properly sized unit will run all day and into the evening to cool a house on hot days.

Hmmm...that's right, it is a heat pump. Never had one but I guess, their Delta T is smaller? You should still feel COOLER air upon start-up though shouldn't you?
