Is the thermostat likely bad in this case?

I have a DICO White-Rogers thermostat
Type No. 1F89-73

The display is dead. There is 24vac (26.9 actually) to the thermostat between terminals G & R.

I called Emerson tech support because I couldn't find a diagram online and they gave me the number of 1F82-51 being the same. I can pull that up online

I can switch the fan to manual run and it comes on.

I can move switch to aux heat position and red light on board comes on. Nothing else seems to work?

Would you say it is likely a bad thermostat at this point? Remember display is blank so I can see anything on it.

If so what kind of thermostat do I need to get. I don't want anything fancy.

Sticker on outdoor part of unit says Model GT3BC-024K so it is a NOrdyne Split unit heat pump.

thanks for your help

Don't know if it helps but here are the terminals on the thermostat
C,L,E,W2,Y,O/B,R,G

all terminals have a wire connected except for L, no wire there.

You need to check from R to C for 24vac. These two terminals are what supply the electronics of the thermostat.

The fact that you read 24vac between G and R tells you that the transformer is good.

You've confirmed power is present. Looks like the stat has died.

The one last you can try is to remove power and restore in a few minutes.
No display.... replace the stat.

Ok, tried disconnecting and powering back up. Still dead. Swapped it with one from upstairs that is exactly the same. That one works fine. So stat is bad. Now I will get another.

Question about replacement. I know there are a lot of different ones out there. I don't care if it is programmable or not. What do I need to look at when picking one. Of course one for heat pump. What about stages or things like that?
