Unit Showing Freeze Rings During Heat Mode

Hey Everyone,

I was working on my deck the other day and I noticed my one unit running a little more often than the other (2 zones). There are rings of ice forming on the unit and then it quickly shuts off. I assume that it is kicking into defrost mode.

I am currently running the home at a low heat (58 degrees since it's a vacation home). I know I am getting to the point of replacing these units but is this something that could be worth-while to fix? I'd appreciate any insight as to what's going on or where to start diagnosing. The thermo was set to heat when this happened. I am not sure if there are any issues with the AC yet (I didn't think to test it at the time). Thank you!

That's normal for a heat pump.

Thank you for the input. My other unit which is larger was not showing any signs of frosting like this when it was running which made me think something was wrong. I appreciate the clarification!
