Thermal Lockout

Bryant 265ANA048 Heatpump installed in 2008
Running in AC mode everything good until last night. Woke up to warm house this morning.
Took cover off the outside unit and was getting code 82 (thermal lockout)
Checked for 240v at contactor measured 237v.
Turned off breakers for inside and outside units
Waited a few minutes then turned both back on.
After the delay, outside fan came on but the compressor did not start. Then board showed code 72 (also a thermal locktout) After about 20 min. outside fan stopped.
The compressor did NOT make any loud humming when it was supposed to start.
Is there anything I can check before calling for a service man?

Update: outside fans turns on again after a while and you can hear the compressor hum for about 5 seconds then stop.

Thermal lockout means the compressor is shutting down on high heat.
A defective capacitor would typically cause that problem.

(don't leave the system cycling like this as it's hard on the compressor)
