Antifreeze / Coolant Concentration...

Hello, I have 2 Geostar (same water furnace I believe) geothermal units in my house. A main unit in the house, and a smaller unit (looks like a hotel room AC / heating unit) in my garage. They are connected to a QT flowcenter? (I think it's called). I am unsure, but I MAY have a small leak in the system. A few times I have checked the coolant level in the QT and it was low. I was advised to just add a cup of water to it. This has happened a few times now, it seems like whatever the fault is, it is not getting any worse, but my concern is the coolant is becoming diluted each time water is added. I just noticed on the QT it says, "Methanol Content 20%" the coolant is red in color.

My question is, how do I check the concentration of the coolant, and if it is low and I need to add coolant, what kind to coolant do I add?

welcome to the forums!
I don't know how you check the level but methanol is what our local tire store puts in tractor tires. unless i'm mistaken windshield washer fluid is similar.
what area/climate are you located?

I can check the level in the QT flowcenter. Just unscrew the cap and see it.

Methanol (liquid) goes in tractor tires?!

I'm not looking for similar. I'm looking for exact / correct. Sometimes mixing chemicals can produce undesired results and cause more grief than good.

I am in Manitoba, Canada

Thanx,

over the yrs my rear tractor tire fluid has become a mixture of calcium chloride, windshield washer fluid and methanol - no issues that i'm aware of

have you discussed your concern with the installer or servicing company?

How about contacting manufacturer? They might have another service company near you.
