Outside fan on Trane needs reset every two days

I have a four month old complete 3.5 ton Trane HVAC system. I noticed two weeks ago that the outside fan was not running even though the house stays warm. The installer said to trip the breakers, wait five minutes, then turn back on. The outside fan works fine then but only for two days so I have to reset with the breakers again. Local temperature has averaged 20 to 40 degrees F. Any ideas what could be wrong? You would never know anything was wrong unless you were looking for the outside fan to run.

Welcome to the forums.

You have a heat pump system. The outside condenser gets frosted/iced up and needs to go into defrost mode. When that happens the outside fan can cycle or be turned off during defrost. If it is staying off for longer than defrost.... then there is a problem.

Sounds like you'll be needing a visit from your tech if the system is only four months old.

Yeah, the defrost works. It's probably been doing this since the install. I just didn't notice until I cleaned 6 inches of snow off of it. Thanks.
