Need help! What needs replaced on buzzing A/C heat pump?
Hey all, I’m hoping for a simple repair answer that I can do myself, but have no experience with HVAC. When I put my unit on cool, it won’t kick on. I can hear it trying to start up, because from outside I can hear a buzzing sound for a couple seconds, then it stops. Then it will buzz again a few minutes later. The fan inside won’t rotate on its own, unless I reach inside and start it spinning, then it goes by itself.
Does this sound like a capacitor problem? Something else entirely?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Welcome to the forums.
When you turn the A/C on does the contactor engage and then the compressor starts(buzzing) ?
Does the contactor stay engaged or is it opening ?
If the contactor stays pulled in and the compressor buzzes and then stops.... that would indicate a defective dual capacitor. A lazy fan also indicates a bad dual capacitor.
If the contactor disengages and then reengages.... that would be a low on charge problem.
