pressed wood will not hold screw
#1

A slide out shelf which rides on two metal strips, has fallen. The pressed wood along the cabinet wall is stripped. I have shoved some toothpicks, coated with wood glue into the hole. Any other suggestions should this not work?

I would hotglue and screw the metal strips back into place and support them from below with a wooden cleat attached to the wall using a 1/2" X 2" piece of wood. Cut the supports shorter than the metal strip so it doesn't show under normal conditions and pre-drill the screw holes so you don't have to "screw" with the support once it's in place.
Apply adhesive to one face of the support and set it in place and use small screws to hold it there. After both supports are in place, depending on the type of adhesive used, give the job a day to cure and then reinstall the sliding shelf.
BE SURE your measurements are correct or the shelf may hang on one side or may bind in the track. Use a level or a tape to align the strips before installation. Measure everything twice before proceding. LOL.
