building a tree bench

Saw a picture of a hexagonal tree bench, but the measurements are giving us a fit. Hubby would like to build it himself. measurements are 48"dia.x15 overall, bench is 24"wide.
It has six legs and we assume 15"high. But the problem is no matter how he cuts his templates(six pieces), they come no where near those measurements..Does anyone know how to figure this out? Thank you. Donna Vindigni

Bench

I asked the queen of all things I do not know, my mom.

She has a neighbor who I spoke with (he has a bench).

He said - you should have six 2 1/2 foot long, 24" deep sections for a total of 15 feet around. Six legs, 15" high is great. He also said not to worry so much about measurements, the important part is to like it and to get it to fit around your tree! If the 2 1/2' sections aren't long enough, consider putting in 'extras' - wedges used as spacers. That will keep the look of the hexagon, and add some character.

Hope this helps, let me know if it does or not!
