When will home automation devices become available to run on 5Ghz WiFi? 2.4Ghz band too crowded. I can see almost 40 WiFi networks from inside my home using WiFi analyzer. Impossible to get anything working without interference. So I have dual band router and use the 5Ghz band exclusively and disabled 2.4Ghz band. I have Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone which works fine on 5Ghz. Been looking for simple home lighting WFi control but cannot find any light switch devices that use 5Ghz band. Crazy that industry doesn't realize that 2.4Ghz band too crowded to support any kind of home automation unless you live very far from neighbors.

My friend has his whole house set up with Echo's and, I believe, the Samsung Smart things hub, so he can control everything from lights to door locks with his voice. It's pretty cool, but the price tag seemed pretty extensive. Is the Amazon echo (the dot in particular, is there any difference between that and the regular one software wise?) malleable enough to work with that I could make some automation systems myself and have them work seamlessly? (For example, there is this blind opening system I find intriguing ****** I know IFTTT integration is really helpful in that regards, but I am still not sure if it's worth the effort at all.
