TV rookie needs help
I have a ferguson tv model number 59P7A. Initially the problem was horizontal lines over the top 1/4 of the screen. I phoned a technician with allegdly "26 years of experience" who said the problem could be fixed at home. After one hour he took away the tv saying he did not have the correct
parts with him. The tv was returned five days later repaired. However after 2 hours the picture cut out and the screen went blank. This has been happening with more frequency. Finally On switching the tv on the red channel number 8 flashes 3 times then nothing I would be grateful for any help.

auntie_biotic, The power supply produces voltages for the horizontal circuit and the high voltage transformer to operate. The high voltage transformer produces voltage for the vertical circuit. Those lines in picture were probably due to one or two componets in the vertical circuit going bad. If in fact he was in the vertical making his repairs he will need to back track on what did. Normally the vertical circuit shutting down does not affect the operation of the other circuits, the television will still play but you'll have no picture just a black screen with a white horizontal line running across the screen. The flashing eights might be the failure code for shutdown.
