DVD Player Out

The past month or so, our DVD's would skip around. Thought it was a dirty disk, but then they all started skipping. Now the player won't even turn on. Press the button and it comes up momentarily and then it's gone. Bug's Life is stuck in the player. HELP!! 2 yr old wants to watch his movies! Is this worth trying to fix or do we have to spring for a new one? It's a Sony, a little over a yr old.

THANKS!

I have no idea how to fix this, but I got a CD out of a broken player once by unscrewing the screws to the cover and taking it out of the top. I ended up tossing the player because it had pop spilled on it.

I realize this is a last resort of course. Hopefully someone else on the board will know how to repair yours.

Cool Alignment...

It's up to you but I wouldn't put any money in it. DVD players are below $100 for a fairly decent unit. Dismantle the unit untill you can get to your DVD and purchase a new one. You could take this in to a shop but you are looking at well or $50 for just about any repair. If the optics have failed then easily $100 or more. It could be the unit just needs to be aligned, tolerence drifts over time. It will take a 100 Mhz scope, the schematic and knowlege on how to reset the optic voltage and focus.
