TV Repair
A friend told me about a website on how to fix TV's. It helped me to clean my 5 yr old projection tv. I have to share it with others. www.fixyourowntv.com

Dude, spare everyone...
This looks like a rather useless site, especially since
there's an offer to see some junk on the couple of
common sense problems like spilling junk on the screen.
Plus it's loaded with a bunch of stupid popups.
One's better off going to sci.electronics.repair and getting
the FAQ.

To alung
We at fixyourowntv.com take pride in our work and web site. We want to provide people with the most accurate information, so they may make better judgements on their repairs. Whether they do the work or call the shop. We also realize that our site contains material beyond the abilities of some people. But there are people that need our services. Our information is correct and our prices are fair and our customer service goes beyond the norm. Maybe our site doesn't have all the glitz of others, but we are still proud. By the we where may we see your site??

Dakota--
I stand by my earlier statement. Instead of indiscriminately flaming, I'll offer some constructive feedback based on common web sense.
- I spent a grand total of about 2 minutes surfing your site. Half the time was spent being distracted by and cleaning up all the stupid popup ads and clicking on blank references. By the 4th popup, I had already lost interest in seeing what else you have to offer
- Your presentation of all the TV maladies graphically is a real slick idea.. It was definitely an eye-catcher for me. Big Plus here. I was hoping to click on the appropriate picture and get some useful info. Instead, most all were null. Big turn off. One of the few that did work was the one with the puke on the screen.
Needless to say, I have a 2yr old at home who pukes in his sleep, at mealtimes, in the car, in the mall, all over the house, and just about everywhere else you can imagine. He even pukes on demand if he's fired up enough. I *really* don't need to know how to clean up puke from a TV screen.
Perhaps this one should belong in the humor section instead of where I'd expect to find some real beef while trying to research a fix for my TV
- First impressions count--my first impression of the site before even clicking anything was you were trying to sell me something. No problem in trying to do some business, BUT--Big turn off.
Plus, if you want to keep my attention long enough to sell me something, you don't distract and bombard me with a zillion popups!!
- "material beyond the abilities of some people?" Dude, bad choice of words. Of the stuff you're selling (at least the stuff I saw before leaving) --any tech, repair guy, or engineer worth half his grain of salt knows darn well there's no panacea fix-it-all bag 'o parts that will fix a given malady all the time. It's damn misleading to others.
While this marketing tactic can work for the desperate-to-try-anything-blindly Joe-Blow who knows nothing more than repair-by-shotgun-method, I think folks in this forum are a bit more refined to fall into that category
