Thumbs up Sensor Failure

There is an LED sensor in the tape path that is used to
determine "if the tape is really there". If the LED burns out or
such, the machine is confused and doesn't know if it really loaded
a tape or not.

Replacement of this sensor is not for the novice. Most have no
idea where to look for it.

Tape decks are down to the $80 mark these days. Suggest you
scrap the unit and buy one of the cheap ones to replace it. It
is far cheaper than trying to repair the old unit.

And, when HDTV becomes a standard, your VCR won't work
anymore with the new standard.
