How does one use a big screen tv for a center channel for souround sound?

Hi,

My buddy has a 60 some inch mitsubishi hdtv big screen tv and an aiawa souround sound system. We are trying to figure out how to use the TV as his center channel but his book does not show any way to do this.. I have heard of this done before.

Anyone know of any web links and such?

Thanks.

I had my TV set to do this. I thought it was ingenious, but I actually have only used it once.

You have to use an external device, and have a receiver to do this. For instance a dvd player.

Plug the video out (S-video, or components, or whatever into the TV)
Plug the audio out cables into your receiver
Plug the "Center channel out" on the receiver to the "Audio In" on the TV.

Now anytime you have the DVD player on, and the receiver set for surround, your TV will be the "center channel speaker".

On some TVs you also have to set switch at the back of the TV, if you want to use speakers only for center channel use.
