Hi all- Was gonna take this in to a repair shop, but thought I would give DIY a whirl here first. I have a panasonic combo vcr/tv. The vcr stopped recording awhile back. Right before it did, it just stopped recording sound. As an aside, my wife was taping her soap opera stuff, over an older soap opera tape. The scenes are all about the same amount of time, and it synced up. Was freeking hilarious! I shoulda kept that tape. Heh, anyhow, so it stopped recording sound, and now when it records, (it acts like its doing it) it just doesnt lay any new signal down on the VHS tape. Note that it plays back VHS just fine. Any thoughts? Its a good TV, only a few years old. If it aint something I can do, then its goin to the shop for an estimate. Thanks, Eric

We're thinking of getting a new TV as the old one in the den is acting up sometimes and I saw a friends new flat screen and the color and tone was really great. I figured by asking questions here I'll get an opionion unbiased by a salesman looking for a commision. Before we got cable last summer we looked at Dish and a local provider said, "oh, you MUST HAVE HDTV, in another year anyway so you MUST BUY a new TV before we'll hook you up, (did I mention he's a local appliance/TV retailer. Sounded like BS to me and anyway we went with cable for a number of reasons. When I'm looking at ads I see things like "HDTV ready", aren't all TVs made now "HDTV", or are they just "READY" to somehow get converted? I figure we'll get flat screen, but what other features should I look for? Thanks Frank
