DVD/VCR Connection

I am trying to connect a combination DVD/VCR (Sylvania SSD803) to a digital cable box and a Sony 36" TV (KV-36FS13). I would also like to connect to stereo tuner, but that will be another day.

Cable TV is okay, DVD works okay, cannot get videotape picture or sound.

Here's how I have it right now:

coax cable from wall to cable box.
coax cable from Cable box to DVD/VCR (combo) antenna in
coax cable from DVD/VCR anntena out to TV UHF/VHF

Component video jacks from back of combo to TV
Monster audio jacks from back of combo to TV, below video jacks

RCA cable from VCR port audio out on back of combo to cable box. (this was suggested by electronic store)

I have been working on this for 2 days, have invested almost $75 in cables and still it doesn't work. I can email pics of the diagrams to anyone who can help me.

coax connection to TV should work

The cable and VCR should both use the same coax from combo to TV connection. Since cable works but VCR doesn't, it might be the VCR.
Are you switching the combo to VCR? Don't assume its automatic.
What does the manual say about the coax-in and VCR?
When playing the VCR - are you using the VCR's tuner or is it set to TV?
