vcr tape "sticking"

My VCR has been, on and off, been taping programs that playback with little audio/video blips. It is like the tape is getting stuck for a split second, the audio/video jumps a bit...and when it does happen, it will happen throughout an hour or two of taping. It seems to be worse at the beginning of the tape. Is this a tape problem (I've tried a couple different ones though) or does something need to be "tuned up" inside the VCR?
Anyone else have a similar problems or suggested solution?

This symptom often appears if the capstan motor is failing or if there is a fault in the servo system. I don't know the make of your vcr but Sony's often exhibit this problem. Good luck.

woah people still use vcrs? yeah rickt737 is right, check the motor first, since if this is the problem it will be the easiest to determine and repair/replace, if its your servo system, you maisewell get a new vcr, their cheep now anyway.
