Is there a way to run extra speakers from an inexpensive stero system. Thanks in advance!

I can't answer that question honestly. For one, I don't know a thing about the amplifier, its capabilities, and how it is wired. In most cases, I would say yes to the question. If I had the schematic of the amp, I could draw a hook up diagram. In your case, I would say no. If you hooked up the wrong combination of speakers and didn't wire it right, you could snuff the finals in the amplifier.

If you are dealing with one of those bookshelf systems, then probably not. You could do it, there is a speaker switchbox you can get a Radio Shack that lets you run 2 sets of speakers on a single set of speaker outputs and provides some semblance of proper load characteristics, but those little systems have very little power and you might have to drive it into distortion to get any volume on 2 sets of speakers.
Most decent receivers, even the inexpensive ones, have 2 sets of outputs for speakers. You would be far better served to get one of those. If your current system has line level outputs, you could even use it as a source on the new receiver.
