Unhappy

My 27" Sanyo is 7 yrs old and has recently started making this "popping" sound. When it does this the color becomes distorted and then the t.v. will turn itself off and come back on again. Also the remote and any buttons on the t.v. will stop working, only way to shut it off is to unplug it. Please help.

Thumbs up

Good Morning, BamaJeff:

What I preceive is happening is that the high voltage on the picture tube (40,000 volts) is no longer being regulated. In this case, it would appear that the voltage has exceeded limits. As such, it will ionize the glass on the picture tube which will ultimately result in a high voltage arc to chassis ground. When it arcs, the high voltage on the picture tube fluctuates and causes the picture to distort.

This whole scenario is dangerous and can start a fire in the set. My advice is to pull the plug and get it to a shop FAST!

Cost to repair? Shop around a little bit and get some quotes. These vary a great deal since no one actually repairs these things anymore.
