Rg-6 Wire Stripping Instructions
I ran new rg-6 wire for my satellite system. I need to hook up coaxial connectors on the ends. The instructions say to strip 3/8" of all insulation to expose the metal wire. Then strip another 1/8" insulation. I'm using quad shield wire. The wire has a black outer layer of insulation, then wire braiding, then a foil insulation, then finally the white insulation around the wire.
When they tell me to strip 1/8" of insulation...should i only remove the black outer layer and leave the wire braid and foil insulation around the layer of white insulation? Sorry if this is confusing to read.

The connectors I use specificallysay to strip down to the white insulation. I have seen connectors that specify leaving the braid and then folding it back over the black (seemed like a pain to do that, so I didn't buy them).

What connectors do you use? I did mine last night stripping down to the white insulation and i only had a satellite signal strength of 59%. They were gold f connectors (crimp style) from Radio Shack.

Don't know what brand, I buy them at Menard's. If I had to guess, I'd say they might be RCA (they're crimp-on connectors, by the way).
