Panasonic TAU HDTV Monitor with open fillaments

Hello - I have a panasonic TAU HDTV monitor that is just over 2 years old (about 2 years, 3 months, of course warranty is 2 years). As I was watching TV, the screen suddenly turned purple, and then faded to black in about 3 seconds. I brought it to the repair place and they diagnosed it to an open fillament. The repair guy told me fillaments generally don't break anymore. He is assuming all three are in series as none of them are working, but when he placed a light bulb somewhere, it light up. He told me the job would cost about $450 (parts are about 300 - $350, a new tube I believe). Is there anything I can do with this TV at this point. I am certainly not going to spend $450 since I can buy a better, brand new TV for that cost. Is there a way I can buy the fillaments and replace myself? Or are they burried in the tube (which I believe is vacuum sealed, so I can't obviously go into that).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

The filaments are inside the CRT. No way to fix them. Sorry
