Wizard cannot find the necessary software

Having trouble uploading my video from my JVC digital video camera model GR-D72U to my computer. The camcorder is about 2 years old. I'm trying to upload to my new computer which is an HP Media Center PC m7640n.
Running Windows XP.

Whenever I plug the camcorder to the computer via USB, the "new hardware wizard" pops up as expected. I don't have a disc for the camcorder, so I have Windows search for the proper software.
I keep getting the error message; "the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

I've tried downloading software and drivers from the JVC website, but haven't been able to get it to work.

I'm frustrated to the point that I have come here for help.

I have proper "video capture" software. It's called Sony Vegas Movie Studio. So if I can ever get the video uploaded, I'm good.

I just can't get my computer to recognize the video camera.
It recognizes other things like my digital cameras, but not this.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You are using the correct cables and not using the USB and DV cord at the same time? MAke sure you are using the AC adaptor when connecting to PC.

Have you tried a different USB port?

When this windows wizard comes up again, select "specifiy a specific location" instead of windows searching for it automatically. Then direct windows to the folder (files) that you downloaded. It should work then.

I think I've solved my problem.
I was using a USB cord instead of the DV cord.
My first time trying to upload video.

When you mentioned the DV cord, I asked someone about it.
I was told that USB is good for pictures, but the DV needs to be used for video.

I hooked it up and the computer recognized it!

Thanks for the help!
