Charging a port. DVD player battery w/ univ. AC Adapter?

So, I managed to leave the AC adapter (that charges the portable DVD players battery) behind on our last trip. I purchased a universal AC adapter that is 9V 600mA. The adapter that came with the player states it is 9V 2.2 amps.

My question is whether I am going to fry my player by using the universal adapter? It specifically states not to use the universal adapter to recharge; however, the sales tech said it was the same thing & the amperage difference wouldnt make a difference.

The player is working - but, it seems to sort of on the fritz (I charged it fully & drained the battery a couple of times & each time its playback is different w/ a few times not charging at all - even though it was plugged in for about 4 hours).

Thank you for any help or advice.

The adapter is not big enough. You will probably fry the adapter. You need at least 2.2 amp adapter. You also need the make sure you have the correct output current, AC or DC.

I've got the correct ac dc set up - however, I thought 600 mA was more than 2.2 amps...is that wrong? 600mA = 6 amps...I am forgetting my voltage/amperage stuff (obviously) . But, you think I will fry the adapter and not the player (preferred way if I am going to fry something).

Thanks for your help though! I will look around for a different amperage.

if i am correct 600mA would be just over 1/2 of 1 amp. therefore your charger is not big enough to charge your batteries properly. You will need to purchase a bigger (at least 2.2amp) charger.

Amps'R'Amps

600 mA (milli Amperes) = 0.6 Amperes
2200 mA = 2.2 Amperes
