Question Car to Home Audio Conversion

Car to Home Audio Conversion
I would like to take my car audio and use it for my dvd/satellite sound.
Is there a way to use car speakers (I have four infinity 6*9s and two phoenix gold 12 inch 800 watt subs) and hook it up to a home audio/theatre?

I understand that I would have to purchase a volume control (possibly just a receiver or something) that would forward the sound to my speakers and to the amp for my subs... but does that even work?

I went into a store where the "tech" told me the ohms "may" be different from car to home audio.

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm trying to do this economically.

Car speakers are designed for small enclosures like cars. If you put car speakers in a home, it will sound like......crap.

Why not get some real home audio speakers?

How are you going to power your sub? Car amps use 12vDC power and home uses 120vAC?

Too do all this, you would need a receiver, enclosures for your speakers, and then a amplifier (not car) to power your subs. (Unless receiver has built in sub amp).

To power the sub I would just take a car battery, a car charger, and hook that up to the amp that I already have.

That is if I can connect the receiver to a car amp for my subs.

So if I got a receiver and hooked it up to my car speakers, it would be compatible?

That is one ghetto setup if you ask me. A car battery and charger inside your home?

How would you ground the amp?

Seems extremely risky.

You can get a basic HTIB starting at $200-300 and it would sound a whole lot better then having a automotive components in your living room.

ghetto, lol that could be...

I just wanted to do a quick temporary hookup in my new place since I had the equipment. I guess car audio is really not meant to be in the house so I'll just store that stuff till I need it again.

$200 - $300 dollar systems I'm guessing wouldn't sound too good though.

I guess I'll skip on this setup and start researching home audio.

Thanks for the advice.

DO NOT use a car battery and charger in the house! The combination can produce toxic fumes, explosion hazards, and injury/damage from leaking acid.
