Home theater system to TV w/o VCR

I've searched thru some of the threads for an answer and found some good advice. I just needed some specifics and hope I can word it correctly. I disconnected my VCR (its old and not very good) and would like to watch TV with the sound coming thru the home theaters system. I could only do this when I had the VCR hooked-up and turned-on. Is it possible to go thru the DVD player? Currently, when we pop a DVD in the player it goes directly to the home theater system and sounds great.

To make matters worse (or better) next week we are upgrading to digital cable, so I will be getting a cable box. Currently, we only have analog. We live rural and the lines did not run out to us.

I have: Sharp TV (not HD)
Zenith DVD Model DVD 2381
Sony Home Theater Ht-DDW660

The DVD can't be used as a pass-through because it has no inputs.

Depending on the model of TV, it may have red & white RCA audio outputs that can connect to the sound system.

Your problem might also be solved when you get the digital cable box. Hopefully it will have RCA outputs.
