To get ESPN or any non-local HD chanel, you'll need to buy an HD package.

HD locals, you'll need to buy SD locals to get the guide data mapped down for HD locals, makes it much easier if you DVR.

You will also need an HD receiver to decode the satellite HD signal. You will be able to feed the antenna into the sat receiver.
