Sound Speaker Question

Is it possible to connect remote speakers directly into the audio jack on the rear of a TV or do the speakers need to go through a receiver?
Also.....My computer is connected to cable. Is it possible to put on a splitter and run a TV off the same cable as the computer.
Thanks for any help provided.

The TV's RCA jacks cannot be connected directly to the speakers. They need to be connected to an amplifier. You could buy just an amplifier, but receivers have amps built in and you'll have the added benefits of additional inputs and AM/FM radio.

You can install a splitter on the cable going to the computer. Get a two-way splitter. A lot of people buy three-way or four-way thinking they'll have spare ports. Not a good idea. The more you split, the less signal strength you have, even if you don't use the extra ports.
