Cd stopped working on Philips MC235

I tried to play a cd this morning and it would not play. Now the machine will not read any cd. When I tried to play the cd, it spun initially but then it sounded like the cd was catching or srcaping on somthing. the cd spun one way then the other and then stopped. an error apeared that said "no cd". This is a cd that I listened to yesterday with no issues and did not remove from the radio. I tried putting another cd in, but got the same error, this time with out the cd even spinning.

any thoughts?

Philips MC 235

Mine did the same thing yesterday. But no amt. of tapping, shaking, or imprecation has changed this condition.

The day before that, the sliding door started going up an inch and then stopping. Gently pulling it on up worked. Considering lubrication for that.

Don't know if these two conditions are related or not.

You guys just need to use a big hammer.

Seriously, it sounds like both need a good cleaning. Cleaning discs area worth a shot, but built-up dust could be mucking up the works. That means taking the cover off and vacuuming the inside. Someone might suggest a more thorough manual cleaning of the lens while you have the case apart. Be gentle! (This is no time to use a hammer!)
