Mounting flat screen to fireplace

I want to mount my 42" Sony onto my fireplace above a mantle. It is a real-brick wood burning fireplace built w/ the house in 1974. Should I use Mollys or Toggle Bolts to attach the tilt mount to the fireplace? I will drill through the mortar of course...

I just do not want to ruin any part of the fireplace.

No, we've never used the fireplace. I am just wondering about what hardware to use (toggle bolt vs molly).

Use lead anchors and lag screws designed for brick walls.

Drill into the brick, not the weak mortar.

Save the drill dust. If & when you remove the TV mount you can mix the dust with a bit of cement to fill the holes and match the color of the original brick.

Doesn't that create a greater risk of cracking & ruining a brick?

Is it brick facia?

I never really recommend putting flat panels up that high anyways. The optimum viewing angle of TV's are about 3 degrees.

You will be essentially looking up at the TV.

How are you running the electrical?
