CD player malfunction

Hi. I have a 5 disc magazine type cd player that won't play. When I load up the trays in the magazine, insert it into the player and try to play them, it just keeps changing the cd's and doesn't play them. Can it be repaired or is it trashed? Anyone who can give me a heads up on this would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I'd bet the sensors in the mechanism are dirty or failed, or even the optical deck is not recognising the CDs as valid.

If you post the brand and model # I'll see if I have anything on it.First thing to try is cleaning the laser eye.

Hi again craftsman_50. How do I clean the eye, it is inside the player. Will I have to take the cover off to do that?

I couldn't pull up anything on it.To clean the eye may take some disassymbly.Or you can try a can of air and spray through the cd loading slot.

Hi craftsman_50. I was able to remove the cover and get to the eye, swabbed it with a qtip with alcohol, and it doesn't play like I stated in my thread. I believe it may as classycat says. The sensor has failed or the deck doesn't know the cd is there. So where do I go from there?

Since it's useless the way it is,I would replace the optical assymbly that you just cleaned. When you pull it appart there is a # printed on the assymbly. That # is a generic part # .Many brands use the same assymbly.Google the part # and should come up with a replacement for very reasonable price.

Hi. Do any of these #'s sound right? RF-310T 11400, MN 684712, PNP 1239-C, CMKS-81X. I noticed that the glass eye fell out so I was cleaning the wrong thing. Maybe that is the problem. I will google all those numbers and see what I find. Thanks for your prompt replies too.

Hi. I found the part I need. It is the CMKS-81X. But I don't know how to remove the one from the whole cd assembly. Found at this site- http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/cmks81x.gif

Hi. After doing a little tinkering i figured it out. I am a woman so please bear with me. I was able to locate some sites that sell the part and also at the pioneer website. Costs are from 80-100$ that i was able to find. I was wondering if you could find anything cheaper. Part #CMKS-81X or pioneer # PEA1291. I reattached the eye and it is still not working so I guess i need a replacement. It is called the optical pickup. At that price I could buy a new one and know that it works. It was fun learning about this though.
