Two different Magnavox rear-projection problems

My brother damaged his 50" rear-projection Magnavox VS-50603 while moving. If I can get a new screen for it, he'll give me the TV. It was working fine before he moved and broke the screen. Where can I get a screen and is this something I should be able to do myself? I am an electrician and welder by trade, so tools are not a problem.

The second issue is a 65" rear-projection wide screen Magnavox WS-65869. He turned his power off at the main breaker to his house one day. When he turned it back on, there was a snapping sound in the TV, and now it doesn't come on. No lights or anything. I looked inside, but didn't see anything obvious like a blown MOV. Does this need a repairman or is there something common I can look for first?

Last time I priced a screen for a 50" Mag, the outer screen was around $300, the inner (fresnel) screen was around $700.

As for the parts

I could be wrong but those pull up as Mitsubishi tvs.The first one would cost more for the screens than the tv is worth. The second one sounds like it blew the voltage regultor ic but it could be other things ,so calling a tech would be in order.

Yeah, sorry about that. I just saw them again the other day and they are Mitsubishis!

If you know the screen is worth more than the TV, that means you should be able to tell me how much, right?

Is there a source where I can get these myself or am I at the mercy of local technicians?

So you know that the screen is worth more than the TV, but don't know HOW MUCH or where to get one, eh?

The fresnel lens is also cracked, but in reality, it isn't very visible when the TV is on, and I could live with it, depending on replacement cost for the part. But the darker projection screen is totally ruined and I need a new one of those.

I can't believe it's such a hard item to find.
