sanyo turntable stereo

I have a sanyo am/fm duel cassette turntable model GXT909U that needs a belt and a new tonearm. I can get the belt but doing a quick search on google did not come up with places that sell replacement tonearms. Just the needles and belts. Is it possible to get a new tonearm for this model. The cartridge will not mount to the arm sense the mount is broken. Also the turntable will start but then slows down to a stop. I assume thats a belt or is the motor bad.the motor turns without the belt.

I presume your stereo is one of the "all-in-one" units, and I'm guessing the turntable is a proprietory Sanyo unit. As such, I think you'd have to go back to Sanyo for a specialized part like the tonearm. As a recall, Sanyo has recently been purchased by Panasonic. Don't be surprised if they don't offer a replacement tone arm, as these types of stereos aren't usually intended to be very serviceable.

As to the turntable turning slowly, I would guess it is the belt, if the motor is turning correctly. If you try to grab the motor shaft while its running, does it slow down or stall very easily, or does it seem to have good power? Also, is the turntable platter bearing rotating freely? An old, stretched belt is very likely your problem.
