Coaxial Cable Connection failure

My four year old house was prewired with a coaxial cable outlet in every room. In addition to these wires, my family room has a wire box in the room next to the entertainment center that has two additional coaxial cables without the connector on them (just wire).

So I installed a connector on the cable from the wall. After installation, I then connected the wire from the tv with the wire from the wall using basic extension connector. When I do this though, nothing works. But if I touch the wires together then the reception is perfect. So I thought it was a faulty splitter, but then I tried another and the same thing happened.

So essentially, I know the cable from the wall works, and I know that the cable connected to the TV works, but for some reason, they don't work when they are connected through the two way extension connector.

Any help would be great.
