Backward compatibility in new digital televisions
Are new televisions backwards compatible with analog signals? I don't see any mention of it since the big "conversion". Our televisions are older and were not forward compatible with digital. When the big changeover came, our signals did not change since they come from translator stations. I am concerned that our oldest television (from the mid 80's) may be starting to go and whether we will be able to find a new television which is compatible with our analog signal.
We got the set top boxes but don't use them since only 2 stations have a digital signal and the strength is iffy, and one of those stations still comes through the translator station in analog.

There are three tuner types:
NTSC is analog (over-the-air and analog cable)
ATSC is digital over-the-air
QAM is digital cable
When you research a new TV, make sure it has all three so you're able to pick up digital in the future.
You can also use the tuner on a VCR.
