Dish will play but not record OTA channels

I hope someone can help.
We recently had an outside antenna installed and a converter installed on our Dish VIP722K DVR. The OTA channels play perfectly but when we try to record them they are pixelated and sometimes won't record at all.
We have a signal strength or 73% or more. The installer said that the DVR won't record the OTA channels unless the signal strength is 100%. It seems like it should record if we can see the programs, which we can. They are excellent.
Does it make sense that the programs wouldn't record if we are able to watch them live through the DVR device?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Remove the converter box and hook the outside antenna direct to your 722 ant input.

Menu 6 9 --- scan for local channels
then ADD the locals.
they should now appear in your guide, - record/watch as you wish.

Thanks Fred

I hope I made my note clear. The OTA channels appear in the guide and play excellent while you watch them. Even though they play well while watching they are pixellated and jumpy on the recording.

convertor box or Dish ota module??

Okay, here's what I need to know first.
Do you have a Dish network OTA module added and inside your 722K?
this is what you need. I don't think a standard convertor box will work.

fred

btw, your installer was wrong, you don't need 100% signal strength..

I do have a dish OTA module installed. The picture is great while watching live. If I pause it it won't play back or if it does it is really broken up.
I have watched a program and recorded it at the same time. It plays perfect while watching it live but the recording is choppy, pixilated and usually drops off.
Any ideas?

Bob,
your signal quality is borderline for maintaining good video - when mine lowers to low 70s during inclement weather it tends to pixilate a bit.
theoretically though, you should be able to record the same quality you see live, with a good picture.
Before I would call Dish (poss ota to dvr problem) I would tweek/raise antenna or add an antenna booster.
do you have a local friend with dish? you could test it there, or find a local retailer with an ota antenna to check your 722 recording problem there.

very strange problem,
not much more I can add.

fred
(as info, my ota sig strength is 75 to 83 on all my locals - no problems at all.)
