Mounting Flatscreen to fireplace

I've been contemplating mounting my TV on my brick fireplace and have finally decided to do it. I'm curious if anyone has done this and has any tips for me. FYI, the fireplace has a ventless log kit in it.

Heat from the FP can be a problem. Run the FP and place a thermometer where the bottom of the TV will be when it's mounted. If the temperature is over 100 degrees you may have a problem. (The internal temp inside the TV can get quite a bit hotter, and electronics like to run cool.)

Also keep in mind that the most comfortable viewing angle is eye level when you're seated in your favorite viewing spot. A TV that's mounted too high can cause discomfort over time.

As for mounting, concrete lags into the brick will hold if it's real brick. If it's a facade you'll need to anchor it to the framing.

Hiding the cables can also be an issue. Whatever you do, DO NOT run the cables inside the fireplace! (You'd be amazed how many people try to get away with that!)

My tv is currently sitting on my mantle utilizing the stand, so heat won't be a factor. This goes the same for viewing angle. I've had it sitting at this angle for awhile so it won't be a change. I will also have a tilt mount so it will help with the viewing once I mount it.

Are you saying I need to secure the mount into the brick? I was told to only put screws into the mortar and never the brick.

The age-old question: Brick vs mortar. Brick is harder but is prone to cracking if the anchors are too tight and they are placed close to the edge of the brick. Mortar can break down over time.

I would use a hammer drill into the brick. What does the mount manufacturer recommend?
