Sony kdf-60xs955 Rear Projection TV Image Issues...
I have a Sony kdf-60xs955 Rear Projection TV that has image issues. I have included a couple of pictures to show what it looks like when the unit is on and producing a picture. It looks like a round area in the middle of the screen and blue/white dots on the outer fringes. I figured that maybe someone has run across this at some point and could help pinpoint the problem I am having with it.

A burn spot has occurred in one of the colored cellophanes (they're red, green, and blue and the size of postage stamps) inside the optical assembly. It is tricky replacing it because dust particles that may get in will be greatly magnified in the picture.
These colored plates are called polarizer plates because the principle behind LCD uses light polarization. The polarizer plate establiishes a "base polarization" and the individual LCD pixels twist and turn the polarization of a second element in the light path (the LCD panel) so the amount of light that finally makes its way through for each pixel position varies to make a picture.
Because the light from the projection lamp is very concntrated in that area, that area gets hot. A fan failure or not replacing filters regularly can lead to such overheating and burning of components.
