Speaker wire to 3.5 mm jack for ipod

I have outdoor speakers which have the wires running to my office. I want to cone to the wires to a 3.5 mm male connector to plug to us an iPod as the receiver. Is this possible? Maybe I need to connect the speaker wires to RCA jacks and then an adapter to 3.5 stero?

Welcome to the forums.

The iPod makes an excellent music source but it doesn't have enough output power to drive speakers directly. You're going to need to come up with a small amp or receiver to connect the speakers to and then connect the iPod to the input of the amp.

Do you have any old stereos or receivers laying around ?

I tried leaving you some best buy links but they don't allow hotlinking to their site.
Here's some from the shack. A stereo amp is all you need.
