My Sharp 27" tv quit on me. No screen, no sound. It is getting power, and the signal is good. It makes a click when turned off and on. Any help? Or, am I now in the market for a new tv?

Good evening, alzempiire:

My bet is that a diode gave up its life in your bridge rectifier in the low voltage supply. Cost of the diode is about $.90.

If you are adept in electronics, I will walk you through the fix. If you aren't adept in electronics, add $250 to the original quote.

Okay Smokey! Direct me to the right diode and I can replace it.

All kidding aside. How adept are you in electronics? If you have no experience in electronic troubleshooting and diagnosis, you are in over your head already.

My diagnosis of the problem was to give you an idea of what to expect from the shop technician. A shorted diode is not uncommon and is an easy fix. It is one of the least expensive shop repairs going.

It's worth taking it to a shop (or having the shop come to you....if you can find one) rather than replacing the set.
