Good Evening, pdalton22:
I empathize with your problem but you have to give us some idea as to what we are working with. Give us a model, a manufacturer, size of screen, approximate date of purchase, etc.
Remember, you can see the set and have a one-on-one with it. I am at a computer somewhere in the world and cannot see it. Give us all the data you have and all the details of the failure.

Details
Hi thanks for the reply
Television is type TEAC, model no CT-M341 ,sn 040494020633 purchased here in Tasmania , Australia in 1994, Size is 34 cm.
Sound still works fine, picture usually fades after around 1 minute use, fades to complete black over about 5 - 10 seconds and then usually comes back about half an hour later but not always. Once picture comes back it stays and doesn't fade again until tv is turned off.
Also i am curious to what could possibly make any model tv fade

G'day, my Tasmanian friend:
My first thought is that there is a bad solder connection in the set and it is on the filament circuit to the TV picture tube. Considering that the picture tube needs 6.3 volts of power to heat the filaments, a loose connection will cause this voltage to disappear. Hence, the tube will go black on you intermittantly.
Just a question: how do you folks deal with that much beauty in your island nation? Been there! Still have dreams about it.

Hi Smokey!!
Thankyou for the advise regarding my tv problem, i'll see how i go. Might need some advise further on.
I am really at the beginning with learning about tv repair, do you know of any internet sites where i can get a basic knowledge of how televisions work, part description and detail.
Yeah , i think Tassie is a pretty good place to live. Beautiful scenery, low crime, where abouts are you from in this big wide world, when were you here ?
I am on the West Coast of Tassie!!!!, pretty wet and cold here at the moment though!

Good Afternoon, Peter:
I am in the Great State of Tennessee in America these days. My chance to visit Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand came as a result of my 25 years with the United States Navy. As I said, for absolute beauty and to meet the friendliest people in the world, it is worth the time to visit the folks "down under". You are truly blessed.

This is additional information, Peter:
Things that will make the picture go black intermittantly:
1. Picture tube filaments failing
2. Video Amplifier failing
3. Loss of high voltage to the picture tube. This is identified by the "crackling" sound you hear as the voltage builds to maximum potential.
Good hunting,
Smokey
